The Trump administration is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to step in on several cases about President Trump's decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

On Monday, the Justice Department urged the high court to review three lower-court rulings that block Trump's efforts to end the program, which is also known as DACA.

Trump decided to rescind the Obama-era immigration program in Sept. 2017.

DACA applies to undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. under the age of 16 before June 15, 2012. Under the program, certain people can receive work permits and temporary protection from deportation.

But in January of this year, a federal judge blocked the administration from ending DACA, and two other federal judges later followed suit.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments on one of the cases back in May, but it has yet to issue a ruling. The Trump administration previously said it would ask the Supreme Court to intervene if the appeals court didn't make a decision by Oct. 31.
