Attorney Michael Avenatti has been arrested over allegations of felony domestic violence.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the arrest on Wednesday and said Avenatti's bail is set at $50,000. CNN reports Avenatti posted bail and left police custody later that day.

Avenatti strongly denies the allegations. He tweeted: "I want to be clear: I DID NOT commit domestic violence nor have I ever committed domestic violence."

Avenatti came into the spotlight earlier this year when he represented Stormy Daniels in a high-profile legal battle against President Donald Trump. He's also flirted with the idea of running for president in 2020 and has become somewhat of a public adversary of the current commander-in-chief.

The Vermont Democratic Party canceled Avenatti's scheduled appearances Friday and Saturday over the domestic violence allegations. The organization's spokesman said all ticket sales will be refunded.
