The House has overwhelmingly approved a non-binding measure that condemns a tax on carbon emissions.

On Thursday, lawmakers voted 229-180 to pass the resolution, which says a tax on carbon dioxide emissions would be "detrimental to American families and businesses, and is not in the best interest of the United States."

It's unlikely that lawmakers will actually pass a carbon tax, considering most Republicans are very against the idea.

But as Bloomberg notes, the measure "symbolically declares the Republican establishment's opposition to the approach."
