Facebook said Tuesday it had given Hauwei, a Chinese phone manufacturer believed to be a national security threat by U.S. intelligence officials, access to Facebook users' data.

Hauwei allegedly has close ties to the Chinese government, which concerns American security officials.

So much so, the Pentagon banned the sale of Hauwei phones on military bases last month.

And FBI Director Christopher Wray testified back in February, "We're deeply concerned about the risks of allowing any company or entity that is beholden to foreign governments that don't share our values to gain positions of power inside our telecommunications networks."

Facebook says it made deals with about 60 cellphone makers, including Apple, Amazon and Samsung. It says it will wind down its relationship with Huawei by the end of the week, according to The New York Times.

Huawei is the third-largest phone manufacturer in the world. It's said its products meet the "highest standards of security."
