James Comey Agrees To Private Testimony With House Republicans

James Comey has reached a compromise with House Republicans. 

On Sunday, he tweeted that he'll sit for a private deposition with House Republicans, that he'll be allowed to talk about it after and that a transcript of that conversation be released within 24 hours. Comey said it's "the closest I can get to public testimony."

The former FBI director's legal team filed a motion on Thursday asking a federal judge to reject a subpoena from House Republicans for a closed-door testimony. Comey threw out that motion when this deal was struck.

All of this is part of a joint investigation into the FBI and DOJ's actions during the 2016 election. House Republicans are specifically looking into how the agencies handled the Hillary Clinton email and Russia probes. 

The investigation will end when Democrats take control of the House in January.
