Drone racing, VR headsets, obstacle courses — strap in.

So how does it work?

Pilots use virtual reality headsets to fly drones from a first-person perspective.

Engineers design identical racing drones for each race.

Pilots compete in multiple heats and are scored based on checkpoint passes and the time it takes to complete the course.

The pilot with the most points at the end of multiple heats is the winner.

And if you're hoping to catch this on TV, you're in luck.

ESPN picked up the broadcast rights for the first season of Drone Racing League.
